Learn to Skate

Whether you wish to pursue  hockey or figure skating or just be able to enjoy the occasional arena visit with family and friends, Learn to Skate classes are the first step to success! Each session teaches skills that encourage basic coordination, balance and movement in a fun and entertaining atmosphere. This program is open to beginning skaters of all ages and will be instructed by our professional staff.

USFSA Basic Skills program is designed to lead you through progressive levels of skating ability to achieve consistently excellent results.

  • Students are grouped by level and ability.
  • Snowplow Sam & Basic include a 20 minute lesson, the remainder of the time is available for a supervised practice time.
  • Testing is on the last day of each session.
  • USFSA enrollment is administered by PLA
  • There is an additional $12 for a USFSA Membership.  This can be paid the first day of class and is made out to USFSA.
  • 10% discount for families with 3 or more members enrolled in each session. This is not to be used with any other discounts.
  • Registrations must be received at least one week prior to the start of the session.
  • During the Fall/Winter session parents may or may not be  allowed on the ice depending on enrollment.
  • All participants registered in Full for PLA LTS or Figure sessions for the 2017-2018 season will receive free admission to PLA Open Skate sessions (some exceptions may apply).
No refunds.  No makeup classes. We must have a total of at least 15 skaters enrolled to hold each session.  All classes are subject to cancellation depending on number of registrations.

SNOW PLOW SAM
Ages 4-6.  Designed to help the preschooler develop preliminary coordination and strength to manuver and be comfortable on the ice.  Adult must be in attendance during the session but are not allowed on the ice.  Class includes 20 minute lesson.  Remainder of time is for practice.
Sessions 1-3 (7 weeks) $105 per session
Session 4 (8 weeks) $120 
 
BASIC 1-8
Ages 6 and up.  These 8 levels introduce and develop the fundamental moves.  Class includes a 20 minute lesson.  Remainder of time is for practice.
Sessions 1-3 (7 weeks) $105 per session
Session 4 (8 weeks) $120 
 
All classes are Sundays 3-4pm at PLA
Session 1 9/17-10/29 7 weeks
Session 2 11/5-12/17 7 weeks
Session 3 1/7-2/18 7 weeks

Session 4 3/4-4/29 8 weeks (no class 4/1 Easter)

 

Our Instructors

Sheri Lynn Carr
Head Professional of Paul Louis's LTS

Sheri is a native of Rochester, she has been coaching in the Rochester area for 25 years. She is a USFSA Double Gold Medallist. She has competed in National Collegiate and regional competition, as well as have won Gold, and Silver in the Empire State Games. She has coached many gold level skaters, as well as regional and national competitors (freestyle, collegiate, adult and showcase). Currently she is coaching freestyle, Moves in the Field, choreography, power skating and basic skills. She has also skated in and choreographed numerous ice show and has  had several of her skaters go on to skate in "Disney on Ice".

Alexandre Chichkov comes from the Ukraine. He trained in Moscow, Russia and has been coaching for 25 years. He is a Russian National Ice Dance Champion and  World Junior Ice Dance Champion.  He went on to skate in Champions and Stars on ice. He has coached international level skaters and currently teaches ice dance, freestyle, power skating, choreography, and basic skills.
